Defeating a majority of an attacking force usually sends the rest of them running. There's two main differences on that front. Their items can be a valuable source of metals for fortresses that embarked in metal-scarce areas (leading some players to refer to the plunder from a defeated goblin attack as goblinite ). And I hated the constant annoying raids on there but they did add quite a bit, so I was/am trying to figure out what is best for me. I can't help to compare this game with Rimworld, although I know Rimworld is based of DF. But if you embark someplace at least a bit far from goblins and necromancer towers, with rather peaceful surroundings, you shouldn't see enemies straight away. Doesn't appear to be any gypsum on the map, and on embark one of the listed problems was that there was no gypsum available. Couldn't get a dwarven civ that was at war with the gobbos, but oh well. Doubled vampire types, which might increase the number of vamps but I don't know. Worst case scenario, you lose a fortress. Not sure how many titans there are left, but I started off with 100.
